Cub Scout Pack 858

Come Join the Pack!

Mark your calendars for the Pack Family Picnic. It will be Sunday July 15th from 1:00-4:00 at Indian Camp Creek park off of Hwy 61 north. We have pavilion #1 reserved which is right by the creek. Come and enjoy lunch, snacks, a hike, the playground, and fun in the creek.  It’s a great time for fun and fellowship.

The annual spring family camp out will be at Beaumont.  This includes a graduation ceremony for the cub scouts.  The cost for this event is $5 per person to cover the cost of the food. We must have everyone’s name that is attending, whether they are spending the night Friday and/or Saturday and if they are a registered scout or leader.  This event will occur rain or shine.  There is a lot of fun planned including mud cave, water rockets and exploring the creek.  There will not be a pack meeting in May.

Don’t forget our annual lock in at the Renaud Spirit Center is Friday March 2nd. It starts at 9:30 pm and ends promptly at 5:30 am. We have to be packed up and out by 5:30. They need time to clean up after us to open up Saturday morning. The cost for each person is $25. Tiger parents/adult partners are free since you are required to attend with your Tiger Cub. Tiger parents – don’t be afraid to come to the lock-in. The first grade boys do surprisingly well, often times they do better than the older boys  in making it through the night. Please don’t show up before 9:30. That’s when they open the doors for us. We will swim from 10:00 until midnight and then have pizza. The rest of the night is typically spent in the gym playing dodge ball and kickball. You can leave with your child at any time during the night. If you drop your boy off we will ask that you leave a phone number we can contact you. If you are not staying please be there promptly at 5:30 to pick your boy up.

We are asking each rank of boys to bring the following items:

Tiger – one large bag of chips each

Wolves – one two liter soda each

Bears – a dessert and/or some other type of snack food of your choice

Webelos – Napkins, plates or cups

Each boy can bring a friend to the lock-in. They will also need to pay the $25 fee and they must be a boy of Cub Scout age – grades 1-5. Webelos II are also invited to attend and bring a friend as long as they follow the same rules.

Remember tomorrow is our annual awards dinner to recognize the
accomplishments of the Cub Scouts for Pack 858.

It’s at the Stegton Regency Banquet Center
1450 Wall Street, St Charles MO 63303

Time: 12:30 to approximately 3:00 pm

Saturday January 21nd from 8:00am – Noon is the Pinewood Derby Clinic at the South Middle School Cafeteria. We’ll have the track setup and the boys will be able to test their cars. We’ll also have some experts there to lend a hand if you need some help with the cars. We’ll have weights for the cars that can be purchased from the pack and also some basic tools to help build the cars.

Wednesday January 25th from 6:00pm – 8:00pm we will hold the Inspection and Impound of the cars at Progress South in the North Pod MultiPurpose Room. Please try and show up at the appropriate time to speed up the check in process. We cannot accept any cars after Wednesday and all cars must go through the Inspection process.

6:00 – Tigers and their Parent/Sibling cars

6:30 – Wolfs and their Parent/Sibling cars

7:00 – Bears and their Parent/Sibling cars

7:30 – Webelos I & II and their Parent/Sibling cars

Our December pack meeting will be Thursday the 8th. Please don’t forget our Toys for Tots toy drive. Bring an unwrapped new toy to donate to those who are less fortunate this holiday season.

There is also another great opportunity to help out one of our fellow PSE families. The Megathlin Family’s house recently burned down. They lost everything in the fire. Fortunately no one was hurt but this was obviously a tremendous personal loss to the family. I don’t know specifics about clothes sizes, etc. but we do know they need gift cards, etc. to replenish their wardrobe, personal items, etc. If you can help out in any way I know it will be greatly appreciated. You can give the gift cards to Amy or Shiree at the pack meeting. Cash donations will also be accepted.

One last thing – our traditional pie throwing to reward the boys who have sold a lot of popcorn will be done at the December meeting. Any boy who sold $500 or more will get to throw a pie at Kernal Corn – Cheryl McCrary, any boy who sold $750 or more will get to throw one at me and those who sold over $1,000 will get to throw one at our committee chair Mr. Clapsaddle. Tell the boys to get their pie throwing arms warmed up.

This Saturday, November 12th, is our bag drop off for Scouting for Food.  Please meet your den at Progress South at 10:00 AM.  Den leaders should arrive no earlier than 9:30 to get their packets.

Our Fall clean-up day at PSE will be Saturday, November 12th. The activity will occur after the Scouting for Food Bag Drop Off event that day. After dropping off the food bags at the neighboring houses, please rejoin us at school for this clean-up activity. We will be raking leaves out of the front grounds and adding mulch to them.

What to bring:

  • Gloves
  • Rakes
  • Leaf Blower and power cord (if available)
  • Wheel barrows
  • Drink and a snack(we will provide PIZZA after the clean-up)
  • Dress for the weather and possibly getting a little dirty

Each scout who participates in this rewarding activity receives a Service Project Patch for helping their community.

Thanks so much for helping out, we really appreciate it! We look forward to seeing all of you.

I hope everyone is having good luck selling Popcorn this year.  Remember your Popcorn order forms are due to your den leaders on October 26th.  Popcorn will be ready to pickup at your den leaders house on November 12th, please arrange pick up times with them.   Money is then due back to your den leaders on December 6th.   Then den leaders turn in the money for their entire den’s order to Cheryl McCrary.  If you  have any questions please call or email Jamie Barnes or Cheryl
