Well it’s that time of year again, and I’m not talking about putting away all the holiday decorations. It’s time to start thinking about Pinewood Derby. I hope many of you got a start on, if not finished, your cars over the break.
This years Pinewood Derby Schedule is as follows:
Saturday January 18th (9am-12pm) – Derby Clinic at South Middle school cafeteria. This is a great chance to come use the official scale to weigh the cars and get a few practice runs on the track.
Wednesday January 22rd (6pm-8:30pm) – Inspection and Impound at Progress South in the small gym.
6:00 – Tigers and their Parent/Sibling cars
6:30 – Wolfs and their Parent/Sibling cars
7:00 – Bears and their Parent/Sibling cars
7:30 – Webelos I & II and their Parent/Sibling cars
Saturday January 25th (9am-3pm) – Race day at South Middle school cafeteria. Times will be announced in the coming weeks.
We could also use a few volunteers to help with race day duties, please contact Matt Inman or email email@example.com if you are interested.
I have to apologize we were out of town last week and I forget to print out the Pack rules for Pinewood Derby to be handed out at the Pack Meeting. Here is a link to the rules. We’ll also try to get them to the Den leaders so they can hand them out at the Den meetings.

Saturday, November 9th, is our bag drop off for Scouting for Food. Please meet your den at Progress South at ??? we haven’t set a time yet. Den leaders please show up a little early so you can get your neighborhood assignments. Also make sure each boy in the pack signs in so we can make sure we have their names to hand out patches. We’ll have hot chocolate and donuts.
We’ll also be doing our annual service project for the school. This is our ONLY major service project we expect the boys to participate in. For those new to the pack we clean up the flower beds and put down new mulch. The more hands we have working the quicker it will go. Please bring garden tools, a 5 gallon bucket and a wheel barrows. If you want to make sure you get your favorite tools back please put your names on them. We’ll have pizza when the work is finished.
As a tip to keep uniforms clean you might want to have your son put on a shirt they can work in under their uniform shirt. That way they can take their uniform shirt off and start helping with the cleanup and their uniform shirt doesn’t get dirty.
The Fall Family Campout will be held the weekend of October 18th-20th. We will be camping at Klondike Park which is located approximately 14 miles down highway 94 from the 40/94 interchange. Klondike Park offers a variety of activities from hiking, biking and fishing with some spectacular views of the surrounding area. We encourage the whole family to come out for the event. We will have advancement activities for all ranks, but there will also be plenty of time to explore and play. Klondike park is famous for its bike trails so pack the bikes in if you have room. But if you’re going to be riding a bike, we’re going to ask that you have a helmet, yes even you adults.
The cost of the campout is $5 for anyone ages 5 and up. The pack will be providing dinner on Friday, breakfast, lunch and diner on Saturday and a cold breakfast on Sunday. Families please bring drinks for those days if you want something other than cool aid or lemonaid.

Join the Pack this Saturday for a Bike Hike! Meet us at Bangert Island Park off the Katy Trail in St. Charles this Saturday, September 28th from 3pm-5pm for a fun bike ride along these trails. The boys will love the terrain perfect for bike fun.
Enjoy this beautiful weather, get the boys back together and join us on our hike this Sunday August 25 at 2pm Greensfelder Park, Deer Run Trail. It will be a 2 1/2 mile hike and we will meet at the visitors center at 2:00.
Come join us for the Back to School Pool Party. Friday August 9th at Alligator Creek in Civic Park from 8:30PM till 10:30PM. The boys are encouraged to invite a Cub Scout age (grades 1-5) male friend to come along. Siblings are of course welcome as well. We will be bringing our own snacks again this year. They are allowing us to bring them inside the pool area this time. The pack will provide water and lemonade. Please bring snack food to share with everyone.

The annual spring family camp out will be at Beaumont the weekend of May the 10th. This includes a graduation ceremony for the cub scouts. The cost for this event is $5 per person to cover the cost of the food. We must have everyone’s name that is attending, whether they are spending the night Friday and/or Saturday. Please fill out the attendance form at the top or side of the page, or follow this link. This event will occur rain or shine. There is a lot of fun planned including mud cave, water rockets and exploring the creek. There will not be a pack meeting in May.
