Cub Scout Pack 858

Come Join the Pack!

The annual spring family camp out will be at Beaumont the weekend of May the 10th. This includes a graduation ceremony for the cub scouts. The cost for this event is $5 per person to cover the cost of the food. We must have everyone’s name that is attending, whether they are spending the night Friday and/or Saturday. Please fill out the attendance form at the top or side of the page, or follow this link. This event will occur rain or shine. There is a lot of fun planned including mud cave, water rockets and exploring the creek. There will not be a pack meeting in May.

Don’t forget our annual lock in at the Renaud Spirit Center is Friday March 15th. It starts at 9:30 pm and ends promptly at 5:30 am. We have to be packed up and out by 5:30. They need time to clean up after us to open up Saturday morning. The cost for each person is $30. Tiger parents/adult partners are free since you are required to attend with your Tiger Cub. Tiger parents – don’t be afraid to come to the lock-in. The first grade boys do surprisingly well, often times they do better than the older boys in making it through the night. Please don’t show up before 9:30. That’s when they open the doors for us. We will swim from 10:00 until midnight and then have pizza. The rest of the night is typically spent in the gym playing dodge ball and kickball. You can leave with your child at any time during the night. If you drop your boy off we will ask that you leave a phone number we can contact you. If you are not staying please be there promptly at 5:30 to pick your boy up.

We are asking each rank of boys to bring the following items:

Tiger – paper products (plates, napkins, solo cups)

Wolves – Salty snacks (pretzels, chips etc)

Bears – Sweet snacks (mm’s, donuts etc)

Webelos – 2 liter of soda

Each boy can bring a friend to the lock-in. They will also need to pay the $30 fee and they must be a boy of Cub Scout age – grades 1-5. Webelos II are also invited to attend and bring a friend as long as they follow the same rules.

Well it’s that time of year again, and I’m not talking about putting away all the holiday decorations. It’s time to start thinking about Pinewood Derby. I hope many of you got a start on, if not finished, your cars over the break.

This years Pinewood Derby Schedule is as follows:

Saturday January 19th (8am-12pm) – Derby Clinic at South Middle school cafeteria. This is a great chance to come use the official scale to weigh the cars and get a few practice runs on the track.

Wednesday January 23rd (6pm-8:30pm) – Inspection and Impound.

6:00 – Tigers and their Parent/Sibling cars

6:30 – Wolfs and their Parent/Sibling cars

7:00 – Bears and their Parent/Sibling cars

7:30 – Webelos I & II and their Parent/Sibling cars

Saturday January 26th (9am-3pm) – Race day at South Middle school cafeteria. Times will be announced in the coming weeks.

We could also use a few volunteers to help with race day duties, please contact Matt Inman or email pwd@psepack858.org if you are interested.

We have an upcoming Pack Hike on Sunday January 13th. We’ll meet at 1pm at Indian Camp Creek Park off Highway 61 in Wentzville. Its located off Highway 61 approximately seven miles to North of 70 on Dietrich Road. We will meet at in parking lot for shelter 6. We will do a trail hike through the back part of the park. Total trail length is around 4.5 miles. At about 3.5 miles people can jump off the trail and walk the road to the parking lot if they don’t want to do the full trail. Plan for 2.5 hours to hike full trail. Be prepared for the weather and a possible muddy trail, suggest change of shoes and maybe socks in the car. There are rest spots along the trail including benches made as Eagle Projects, saw deer and raccoon prints in the trail this weekend.

We have an upcoming Pack Hike on Sunday December 16th. We’ll meet at 1pm at Broemmelsiek Park off Schwede Raod in Wentzville. Its located off Highway DD,  South of highway 40. We will meet at the Trail head between Shelters #2 and #3, there is a large parking lot. A map of the park can be found at: http://parks.sccmo.org. The hike should be between 3 and 4 miles. The trail is a mix of wooded hills and open pasture.

This Saturday, November 10th, is our bag drop off for Scouting for Food. Please meet your den at Progress South at 9:00 AM. Den leaders please show up a little early so you can get your neighborhood assignments. Also make sure each boy in the pack signs in so we can make sure we have their names to hand out patches. We’ll have hot chocolate and donuts.

We’ll also be doing our annual service project for the school. This is our ONLY major service project we expect the boys to participate in. For those new to the pack we clean up the flower beds and put down new mulch. The more hands we have working the quicker it will go. Please bring garden tools, wheel barrows, etc. If you want to make sure you get your favorite tools back please put your names on them. We’ll have pizza when the work is finished.

As a tip to keep uniforms clean you might want to have your son put on a shirt they can work in under their uniform shirt. That way they can take their uniform shirt off and start helping with the cleanup and their uniform shirt doesn’t get dirty.
